Homemade Teddy Grahams

What?  You've never made your own teddy grahams?!?  Haha, well neither had I until yesterday.  The hubs has a small addiction to teddy grahams and goldfish grahams.  I usually keep them in the house to curb his sweet tooth because they are lower in fat and calories than say....freshly baked chocolate chip cookies or an apple cobbler.  But ever since we moved I have not been able to find the goldfish grahams in grocery stores here.  Also, the hubs can down a box/bag of them in two or three days.  At about $3-$3.50 a bag it becomes an expensive snack!  Now, I haven't searched high and low for them to completely rule them out....but it did give me an idea!  Why don't I just make some?  So I did....

Talk about yummy!   Why had I never done this before?  These homemade teddy grahams are much like a crisp honey cookie. When you bake them your house is filled with a fabulous aroma of cinnamon & honey. And not to mention they are shaped like precious little bears.

Don't have a teddy bear cookie cutter?  Use any cookie cutter you have, no biggie!  I found my cookie cutter at, don't laugh, Hobby Lobby for only 53 cents.

On to the recipe!

Teddy Grahams

Ingredients:
  • 1 ¼ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 5 Tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • ¼-1/2 cup water
Instructions:
Pre-heat the oven to 350.  Mix dry ingredients in the bowl of a standmixer on low.  In a separate bowl add the honey to the (warm) melted butter and stir until smooth.  Stir in vanilla with the honey/butter mixture.  Add the honey/butter/vanilla mixture to the dry ingredients and stir. Slowly add the water until the dough comes together nicely.  Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll dough about 1/4 inch thick.  Cut with cookie cutter of your choice.  Bake grahams for about 10 minutes or until the bottom is golden brown.

Recipe makes about 100 small teddy grahams.

Cutting out the cute bears before they go in the oven

The bears enjoying their tanning session

I cooled my bears on a cooling rack.  You'll notice there are some bears missing....the hubs couldn't resist and took a bear here and there instead of all from one place....he likes to test my OCD tendencies.

This recipe will make approximately 100 teddy grahams.

The hubs appreciated these homemade teddy grahams and I am much happier making teddy grahams rather than buying them.  And, of course, they are so much better than what you can buy in stores!

Craving some teddy grahams now?  These were super easy to make and took me about hour in the kitchen.  Talk about fun!  If you have kids they would love to make these.  Try them out...let me know what you think.

Peace out for now!

These sound yummy! How about the chocolate version? My kiddos love them the best of all the Teddy Grahams!

Today is our first day of school and my daughter loves to snack while she is doing her math and language arts. She just downed a box of Teddy Grahams. I will be making some today so I have a stockpile for her and still have some left for my preschoolers. Thanks for the recipe!
